‘They took Pork Chop away’: West Palm Beach woman’s 400-pound pig confiscated by animal control A West Palm Beach woman’s 400-pound pet pig confiscated by animal rescue after several reports regarding its health. The loss of Pork Chop was heartbreaking for owner Kelly Jacobson.“I don’t know what else to say right now. They took Pork Chop away from me,” she said as she wiped away tears.Jacobson’s pig, estimated at 400 pounds, was led away — not easily — by Palm Beach Animal Care and Control during an eviction in Northwood Village, Thursday night.Officers were concerned about the animal’s weight and overall health and are now looking to gain custody.Annette Wrubleski runs a pig sanctuary called Laughing Pig, located about two and a half hours away in Central Florida. She said they can help pigs like Pork Chop there.“It’s going to be a long process, so if he can’t walk, and he can’t, he doesn’t have that activity level to exercise, but it will come in time,” she said.

South Florida Wildlife Center undergoing renovations by nonprofit Rescue Rebuild The South Florida Wildlife Center in Fort Lauderdale is getting a major makeover.Quite the face-lift is coming for the center, which houses hawks, tortoises, pelicans and more. The good deed is being done by Rescue Rebuild, a nonprofit community-driven program of Greater Good Charities.Projects include dig protections, native landscapes and large sand mounds for Florida’s native gopher tortoise.“It’s so important to take care of wildlife, because every individual species plays a part in our bigger ecosystem, and so, when one species is struggling, it affects others,” said Zach Baker, vice president of Greater Good Charities. “For example, like bees. When bees are not thriving, our food is affected, and there’s implications like that, all the different species.”The enclosures fell into disrepair after Edgewater’s historic flooding last April.Renovations are expected to be completed by Nov. 16.

No. 7 Texas holds off TCU's 4th-quarter surge to come away with 29-26 road win AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 7 Texas withstood a furious TCU rally in the fourth quarter to hang on for a 29-26 win Saturday in Fort Worth.Leading 26-6 going into the fourth quarter, the Longhorns nearly let another big lead slip away. A huge 35-yard reception by Adonai Mitchell on third-and-12 with 1:58 left in the game gave Texas a first down and iced the game. Mitchell made a tremendous adjustment on the Quinn Ewers pass that was a bit underthrown and to Mitchell's outside shoulder. Mitchell was essentially on his back when he made the grab, and with only one timeout left, TCU couldn't stop the Longhorns from running out the clock.Texas running back Jonathon Brooks, right, dives into the end zone in front of TCU safety Millard Bradford while scoring on a touchdown run during the first half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Loop Fantasy Football Update Week 10: Last-minute moves UPDATE: 10:25 p.m. SaturdayThe only news so far tonight, and it’s no surprise to anyone in Minnesota, is that the VIkings are not going to activate Justin Jefferson for tomorrow’s game against New Orleans. So when you add that to the absence of K.J. Osborn, it’s going to be a busy day for Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson.Remember, while the clocks are NOT turning back again in the morning this week, the NFL day begins early again with the Patriots and Colts wrapping up the European schedule with a game in Frankfurt, Germany. Beyond Jonathan Taylor, there should not be any major fantasy implications in that game.UPDATE: 12:32 p.m. SaturdayNot a whole lot of fantasy news so far this weekend, except in Cincinnati, where Joe Burrow may be missing his top two receivers for Sunday’s game against Houston.All-world wideout Ja’Marr Chase is still considered questionable because of his injured back. But now No. 2 option Tee Higgins has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury. The beneficiar...

Avalanche has several issues to fix after Blues deal it another humbling defeat

Avalanche has several issues to fix after Blues deal it another humbling defeat If there were one or two obvious issues for the Colorado Avalanche to fix, this current slump would be pretty easy to explain away.Instead, there are a lot of smaller fires to put out instead of one large one. And all of them were a problem Saturday night when the Avs were embarrassed in an 8-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues at Ball Arena. It was the club’s fifth loss in seven games, and the fourth time it’s lost by four-plus goals.Case in point: Colorado’s power play has to be better, but even when it was Saturday, there were mistakes and bad luck. The Avs can ice one of the most talented five-man units in the NHL and have consistently been one of the best teams with the man advantage in recent seasons.Colorado’s power play entered Saturday at 20th in the NHL, converting 17.4% of the time. The Avs had a power play in the second period against the Blues while trailing 3-0.For about 75 seconds, the power play looked great. Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Cal...

Palmer Ridge dethrones two-time champ Thompson Valley for Class 4A volleyball crown The cliché sports question turned out to be the right question. Were the No. 3 Palmer Ridge Bears peaking at the right time?“I agree with that 110%,” coach Erica Bradley said. “We had a little bit of a shaky start to our season. We went through some kinks and lineup changes and had to find the right overall chemistry. But we did.”They needed every bit of that chemistry in their gut-churning, five-set victory (21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13) over No. 4 Thompson Valley in the Class 4A state championship match at the Denver Coliseum.“It was stressful, for sure, especially that last set,” said senior Corrie Anderson, who’s headed to Dayton on a scholarship. “But whenever things got tight, we huddled, took some breaths and calmed each other down.”Palmer Ridge took the back-and-forth fifth and deciding set, 15-13, as their vocal fans let loose with howls and screams. The Eagles, chasing a rare three-peat, had not dropped a single set ...
