By Erika MathieuSunny South NewsThe Lethbridge-Coaldale Foodgrains Growing Project has added another successful year to the books.The Lethbridge-Coaldale Foodgrains project held their annual harvest and barbecue event just north of the Alberta AG Centre in Coaldale on August 15. Hundreds of attendees gathered despite the dry summer heat to enjoy the free ATB barbecue and witness the enormous combines take to the field to harvest this year’s barley crop, with proceeds going toward the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to help fight hunger globally.The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary in 2023, and has raised $1.1 billion to fight global hunger and support sustainable farming initiatives around the world.Over the past 15 years, the Lethbridge-Coaldale chapter alone has raised $2 million. They presented Coalhurst town council with two possible platform options they could utilize for this during their regular Aug. 15 meeting: Citizen Budget and SurveyMonkey.Citizen Budget is an interactive engagement tool that will ask users to show their funding preferences for municipal areas. A user enters their assessment information and using a slider function, can adjust what their individual tax bill would look like based on where they would like to see funding increases. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Racing Association (NYRA) announced today they plan to enforce new rules regarding veterinary checkups of all horses for trainers looking to enter them in a race or partake in a timed workout on NYRA properties. These rules will begin starting Wednesday, August 30, and build on NYRA's current process for veterinarians checking on horses on race day. Multi-Vehicle Crash near Discovery Bay Boulevard Resulted in FatalityCONTRA COSTA, CA (August 22, 2023) – Wednesday morning, a head-on collision on state Highway 4 left one fatality.The deadly crash happened around 7:10 a.m. along Highway 4, near Discovery Bay Boulevard.Based on the investigation, an Acura traveling west crossed the eastbound lane to pass another vehicle. Consequently, the Acura collided head-on with a Ford F-350 traveling in the opposite direction.The first responders declared the Aura passenger dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released to the public, pending notification of the next of kin.Meanwhile, the driver was rushed to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
