Georgia prosecutors have messages showing Trump’s team is behind voting system breach

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:56:06 GMT

(CNN) — Atlanta-area prosecutors investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia are in possession of text messages and emails directly connecting members of Donald Trump’s legal team to the early January 2021 voting system breach in Coffee County, sources tell CNN. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to seek charges against more than a dozen individuals when her team presents its case before a grand jury next week. Several individuals involved in the voting systems breach in Coffee County are among those who may face charges in the sprawling criminal probe. Investigators in the Georgia criminal probe have long suspected the breach was not an organic effort sprung from sympathetic Trump supporters in rural and heavily Republican Coffee County – a county Trump won by nearly 70% of the vote. They have gathered evidence indicating it was a top-down push by Trump’s team to access sensitive voting software, according to people familiar w...

Fourth Trump indictment appears imminent

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:56:06 GMT

A Georgia prosecutor appears on the verge of bringing criminal charges in her investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in that state. Two witnesses confirmed Saturday that they will appear before a grand jury in Fulton County, Ga., early next week — the clearest sign yet that Fani Willis, the district attorney there, soon plans to ask the grand jury to approve criminal indictments against Trump or his allies. If Trump is charged in Georgia, it would be his fourth indictment in the past five months. He is already facing federal criminal charges over 2020 election interference and his hoarding of classified documents, as well as New York criminal charges related to hush money payments. The Fulton County indictment would cap off a yearslong investigation into the former president’s efforts to change the outcome of the Georgia election, which Joe Biden narrowly won. New York (CNN) — Toyota has issued a voluntary recall for certain 2022 and 2023 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks in its largest recall of 2023.The manufacturer announced Thursday 168,000 vehicles in the US have a plastic fuel tube which could “rub against a brake line and develop a fuel leak.” The leak could potentially cause a fire “in the presence of an ignition source,” Toyota added. The company will replace the tube for free and is preparing to make the replacement parts available. In the meantime, Toyota said its dealers “will install protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube at no cost to customers.”Toyota will notify vehicle owners who are affected by the faulty part by early October. Owners can visit Toyota.com/recall and enter either their VIN number or license plate information to see whether their car is included in the recall. This is the seventh recall involving the 2022 or 2023 Tundra model. Mishmash of how US heat deaths are counted complicates efforts to keep people safe as Earth warms

PHOENIX (AP) — Postal worker Eugene Gates Jr. was delivering mail in the suffocating Dallas heat this summer when he collapsed in a homeowner’s yard and was taken to a hospital, where he died. Carla Gates said she’s sure heat was a factor in her 66-year-old husband’s death, even though she’s still waiting for the autopsy report. When Eugene Gates died on June 20, the temperature was 98 degrees Fahrenheit (36.6 Celsius) and the heat index, which also considers humidity, had soared over 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43.3 Celsius). “I will believe this until the day I die, that it was heat-related,” Carla Gates said. Even when it seems obvious that extreme heat was a factor, death certificates don’t always reflect the role it played. Experts say a mishmash of ways more than 3,000 counties calculate heat deaths means we don’t really know how many people die in the U.S. each year because of high temperatures in an ever warming world. That imprecision h...

Veterans battle backlog to get care for toxic exposure

AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- Tracey Souza spends the later days of her ailing husband's life caring for him — and ensuring the country he served cares for him, too. Collecting medical records, scavenging for Vietnam War-era service papers, navigating the maze of Veterans Affairs bureaucracy: a labor of love for a husband who dedicated decades to service before illness sidelined him."He made the military his entire life," Souza said. "Since the stroke, and then the Parkinson's, he's not as active as he used to be. There's a lot of things he can't do now. He can't ride bikes, he can't drive cars... it turned him upside down."Souza said her husband is one of thousands of veterans whose battle did not end when they returned home. The victims not of combatants, but of cancer — wounded not by bullets, but by burn pits."When you're in the military at that time... the chemicals that they used over there in the perimeter of the flight line, I believe a lot of that has to do with it. I'm sure that the...
