Why Martin Kilcoyne won't say no to Tim Ezell

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:09:11 GMT

ST. LOUIS — In his TKO report, Martin Kilcoyne poses a rhetorical question. He wonders if you've ever been in a situation where a friend asks for a favor and you reluctantly agree, even though you'd rather not. In this case, Kilcoyne's friend, Tim Ezell, sent him a message asking if he could come over for some Halloween trick-or-treating. Kilcoyne recalled that Ezell asked, “Hey, come by your house for a little trick or treat?"Kilcoyne agreed, and Ezell arrived at his house around 6:30 a.m. "I can only imagine what the neighbors were thinking,” Kilcoyne said. “Why is there a camera crew banging on Martin's door?” Fortunately, Kilcoyne discovered that it was just “Uncle, Tim.”  St. Louis police investigate 6 sudden deaths Kilcoyne mentioned that even his sons got out of bed to go trick-or-treating with Ezell. “I used to bribe them with doughnuts just to get out of bed. Now it's a chance to be on TV. I think this is the aftereffects of the TikTok generation. Everyone ...

Broncos roundtable: Did Denver do right thing by standing pat at trade deadline?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:09:11 GMT

Parker Gabriel, Broncos beat reporter: The NFL trade deadline came and went and the Broncos… didn’t end up doing anything. What looked a month ago like a sure-fire selling situation and perhaps a clearance sale instead turned into a hold. Denver, of course, is coming off back-to-back wins to get to 3-5, but on the other hand, they have just six selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft at present. So, was this the right move? Clearly, Sean Payton, George Paton and company didn’t feel like they got offered proper value for any of their key players. If they would have, we’d be roundtabling a different discussion.Without knowing the specifics of every conversation and offer received, I can understand standing pat. It’s not so much about the likelihood of going 7-2 or 6-3 and getting into the heart of the postseason picture, but more about the fact that most of the players in question have years on their contracts after this season. Conversations about whet...

Editorial: Denver’s schools need stable leaders. Here’s how to consider board candidates in 2023.

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:09:11 GMT

Denver’s public schools are in dire need of stable leadership. For years now, turmoil has dominated the district’s Board of Education. Board meetings are fueled by interpersonal drama rather than the important business of the district, at a time of deep unrest for students, teachers, principals, and parents. We urge Denver voters to consider a new path for the school board in the Nov. 7 election as they consider candidates to fill three school board seats – one at-large and two for the districts in southeast and central Denver.Mercifully, the at-large incumbent board director, Auon’tai Anderson, is not seeking re-election leaving that seat open for change.John Youngquist and Kwame Spearman are running neck and neck for the seat, and either will be a great improvement over current conditions if they stick to their pledges to be apolitical and make board business (staid and true) the only priority. A third candidate, Brittni Johnson, does not have a competitive public campaign effort. T...

Smart & Final warehouse workers take to picket lines

Smart & Final warehouse workers are striking against their employer, marking the latest in a long run of labor actions in a variety of industries this past year.Workers and the Teamsters Local 630 union are protesting the Commerce-based company to push for a contract that includes job protections and better wages. Workers voted to join the Teamsters in May of this year, the union said. Of particular concern to the warehouse workers is the company's plan to close two warehouses in Commerce and Riverside.About 600 workers from those facilities will be fired, then forced to reapply for their jobs at a Rancho Cucamonga warehouse that is expected to open next year, according to the Whittier Daily News. The Teamsters say the company is trying to bust the nascent union, but the company says the new facility will help them grow distribution capacity by 50%, the News reported."We're fighting for these guys' jobs," said Frank Afoa with Local 630.

Dozens of severely wounded, and dual nationals, allowed to flee Gaza as war rages on

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:09:11 GMT

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Hundreds of dual passport holders and dozens of seriously injured Palestinians were allowed to leave Gaza on Wednesday after more than three weeks under siege, while Israeli airstrikes destroyed apartments in a densely populated area for the second straight day.Even as bombings have driven tens of thousands from their homes and food, water and fuel run low, no one has been allowed to leave Gaza, except for four hostages released by Hamas. Another captive was rescued by Israeli forces earlier this week. But a limited agreement appeared to have been reached Wednesday. Al-Jazeera television, one of the few media outlets still reporting from northern Gaza, aired footage of devastation in the densely populated Jabaliya refugee camp near Gaza City, and of several wounded people, including children, being brought to a nearby hospital. The Hamas-run government said airstrikes killed and wounded many people, but the exact toll was not yet known. The Al-Jazeera footage...

Kisstory at the Bowl

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:09:11 GMT

Kisstory at the Bowl: We’ve been told for the last year or so that this is Kiss’ last hurrah. We’ve heard that from many artists many times, though it seems particularly suspicious coming from the mouths of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley considering the fact that they themselves have admitted they’re not above sending out a whole new set of musicians in makeup as Kiss. Kinda like a glam metal Menudo! For now, we’ll take them at their word. Expect fireworks, lights, bloody tongues, and a whole lotta awesome rock anthems. The fact that they’re doing it without Ace Frehley and Peter Criss leaves a sour taste, but it does leave room for a mega reunion in a few years. We’re told, however, that the stage show on this tour is immense.Kisstory at the Bowl: The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 3 at the Hollywood Bowl.                           ...

Pac-12 picks of the week: Arizona and the Oregon schools have been money against the spread; USC and UW, not so much

The top team in the Pac-12 standings is near the bottom against the point spread while a bottom feeder is one of the best when the betting line comes into play.Washington’s struggles with the spread should come as zero surprise to anyone who watched the Huskies struggle as huge favorites against Arizona State and Stanford.Meanwhile, ASU’s success against the betting line was reflected in narrower-than-expected losses to Colorado and Washington and the upset of WSU last weekend. With two months down and one remaining, it’s clear which Pac-12 teams are the best on the field and which are simply the best bets. Here are the records against the spread, taken from teamrankings.com:Arizona: 7-1Oregon: 6-1-1Oregon State: 5-3Arizona State: 4-3-1Colorado: 4-3-1Utah: 4-3-1Stanford: 4-4UCLA: 4-4Washington State: 4-4Washington: 3-4-1Cal: 3-5USC: 2-7Will those trends hold down the stretch? Review: Doja Cat kicks off first arena tour with Halloween show in San Francisco

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:09:11 GMT

Doja Cat delivered a bit of a mixed trick-o-treat bag as she kicked off her first-ever arena headlining tour on Halloween night at Chase Center in San Francisco. The Cat woman, herself, was mostly on point, sounding especially strong as she showcased her rapping abilities. She’s a real talent, one that should be a force in the industry for years to come.Yet, she also showed her inexperience in the arena realm as she did very little try to connect with the crowd or make the evening feel “live” on Night 1 of the Scarlet Tour, which supports the 2023 album of the same name.Instead, it often just felt like we were just watching something like “Doja Cat: The Concert Movie,” which — who knows? — could be heading to a theater near you in the not-so-distant future.More significant, the touring production — while arena-style big and surprisingly Halloween appropriate — wasn’t as thrilling as it should have been. There was a numbing s...
