Student dies in accident during physical education class in Lawndale

A student at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale died last week after suffering an undisclosed injury during a physical education class.The accident happened on Thursday around 1 p.m., according to officials from the Centinela Valley Union High School District.Details about the accident are sparse, but school district officials said the unnamed student was taken to the hospital by emergency services and later died from their injuries.The school district said it has increased counseling support at Leuzinger High School, and a team is in place to assist students and staff who may need help processing the feelings that come from the "tragic loss" of the student."Please join us in respecting the family’s privacy as they process this unthinkable loss and hold them in your hearts," said Cammie Vogel, Director of Communications & Events at CVUHSD.Leuzinger High School is located at 4118 West Rosecrans Ave. in Lawndale, south of Los Angeles proper. A California lawmaker wants to provide more tenant protection for state residents as a way to limit the risk of homelessness and protect renters against unjust actions from landlords. Sen. María Elena Durazo, D-Los Angeles, announced on Friday a measure that would strengthen the California Tenant Protection Act of 2019. The current law provides tenant protection for renters statewide, which includes limits on rent increases, unjust evictions and relocation fees for no-fault evictions, according to the law's text. (KRON) -- There is "no active threat" on the campus at West Valley College in Saratoga, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Earlier, the campus had been placed on lockdown earlier due to reports of an armed intruder on campus, according to an alert from West Valley Education. The weapon, which was described as a "long rifle" earlier, proved to be a replica firearm, according to a tweet from the college. Two suspects were detained in the incident.
