WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KRON) -- The Kaiser Permanente strike has begun on Wednesday and is expected to last until Friday. This strike will be the largest health care strike the U.S. has ever seen. Nationwide, the strike will include 75,000 employees. The strike will affect hospitals in seven states, including Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and California.Almost 60,000 California workers are striking, including 20,000 in the Bay Area. (KRON) -- Forty years after the beating death of a woman whose naked body was found in Rohnert Park, an arrest has been made, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.Investigators working on the 1983 cold case homicide of Noelle Russo identified one of the persons of interest developed over the years as a suspect. Alfredo Carretero Jr., 65, of Lakeport, was linked to the death based on DNA and other evidence, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives with the Violent Crime Investigations (VCI) unit arrested Carretero Jr. on Oct. 2.The arrest comes after a “significant amount of evidence” was collected and numerous interviews were conducted in the investigation, the sheriff’s office said. VCI detectives sent pieces of evidence to the Santa Clara County Crime Lab and the Serological Research Institute for DNA analysis between 2010 and 2023, which they said led to a positive identification of the suspect. (BCN) -- Oakland officers arrested seven people in connection with three separate cases of auto burglary in the city, police said.Last Thursday, undercover officers allegedly saw two people getting out of a vehicle and committing an auto burglary in the 3300 block of Grand Avenue. With air support, the officers followed the vehicle to the 600 block of Potter Street. After a foot pursuit, officers arrested the individuals.In the second case, undercover officers saw another two individuals cutting off a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle. MADRID (AP) — Honda’s MotoGP team and former world champion Marc Márquez will be ending their 11-year partnership at the end of the season, the Japanese engine maker said Wednesday.Driving a Honda, Márquez won six world championships, won 59 races, and secured 64 pole positions in the MotoGP class.His last world championship came in 2019. The 30-year-old Spaniard has struggled with injury since he broke his right arm in the 2020 opener. LONDON (AP) — A 19-year-old British soldier is believed to have taken her own life after relentless sexual harassment by her immediate superior that including sending thousands of messages in the space of two months, according to the findings from an army investigation published Wednesday.The investigation concluded that Royal Artillery Gunner Jaysley Beck killed herself at an army camp in the south of England in December 2021 following “an intense period of unwelcome behavior” and that it is “almost certain this was a causal factor” in her death.A report on the findings said that in October 2021, Beck received more than 1,000 WhatsApp messages and voicemails from her superior at Larkhill Camp, which is in the middle of Salisbury Plain and around 86 miles (138 kms) southwest of London.
