My wife thought it was an earthquake.”Neighbors said the couple who lived at the home had been sleeping next door Thursday night, and that the building was going to be prepped for summer rentals.“It was just luck that they weren’t in that house,” said Kristin Perry, who woke up to the explosion. “Boom, the house...

Immanuel Quickley to use Sixth Man award snub as motivation: ‘always look for stuff to continue to fuel you’

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:24:44 GMT

Immanuel Quickley took losing to Malcolm Brogdon in stride but vowed to forever recall the snub.“No doubt [it’s motivating],”Quickley said. “When I didn’t make All-Rookie, that was something that fueled me. So you always look for stuff to continue to fuel you and continue to help you get better. So that’ll be one thing that I’ll always remember for the rest of my career.”Quickley finished second to Celtics point guard in the Sixth Man of the Year voting that was announced Thursday. It was more lopsided than expected, with Brogdon nearly doubling Quickley’s first-place votes (60-34).Part of the PR push for Brogdon was Quickley’s games played as a starter (21), which theoretically diminishes a candidacy for a reserve award. Brogdon made all of his appearances off the bench.Quickley noted that previous winners— including Lamar Odom (2011), Aaron McKie (2001), Jamal Crawford (2014), Kevin McHale (1985) and Manu Ginoboli (...

Movie review: ‘Chevalier’ fails to convey scope of composer’s fascinating life

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:24:44 GMT

It’s a striking image — a young Black man, dressed in 18th-century French fashion, in a waistcoat and silk breeches, his hair braided in cornrows, holding a violin, the bow slung over his shoulder, the title “Chevalier” emblazoned below his feet. This movie poster almost looks like a Kehinde Wiley portrait, a radical reassertion of tradition, a disruption of the narrative we’ve been sold. This is a story that’s been crushed under the brutal wheel of history, war and racism, and the film “Chevalier,” about the composer and violinist Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, promises to unfurl this lost story in modern, exciting fashion. The lauded young actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays Joseph Bologne, a role seemingly tailor-made for the actor and musician raised in New Orleans. Bologne, the son of a French plantation owner and a young Senegalese enslaved woman, was born on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and educated in France. He was a talented musician, composer and fencer, for...

The Heat went to Milwaukee hoping to take one game from the top-seeded Bucks. Now the series comes to Miami for two games where the Heat will try to seize control of the five remaining games, starting with Game 3 at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Kaseya Center.“We did what we were supposed to do. We got one, split on the road,” forward Max Strus said. “Now it’s important to take care of home court. It will be a big game [Saturday]. We’re looking forward to getting back out there and redeeming ourselves after last game.”But getting back into the rhythm that Miami showed in Game 1 will be easier said than done. Even without Antetokounmpo in Game 2, the Bucks still dominated the Heat with their size. Bobby Portis had 13 points ...
